Mrs. Nikki Walker's 5th Grade Class
Students in Mrs. Nikki Walker's 5th grade class at Orange Beach Elementary have been enjoying their expanded world of resources made possible through Baldwin County Schools' Digital Renaissance. Recently, the class began their study of mass, volume & density by watching a Discovery Education video about matter on their MacBooks. The video gave examples and showed experiments dealing with mass, volume, and density. Being able to watch the video on their own gave them the opportunity to pause and rewind to catch important information and take notes on what they learned using Pages, the Mac's word processor. They then visited a website to conduct their own online experiments and completed a questionnaire about matter, mass, volume, and density. The class followed the lesson with a hands on density experiment in which they mixed oil, water, shampoo, soap, and syrup to watch them separate and demonstrate the concept of density.
